Video Speed Control

Slow it down. Speed it up. Keep the sync.

What Is Video Speed Control?

Video speed control changes the playback speed of a video file. Slow it down for dramatic effect or instructional clarity, or speed it up for time-lapse effects and condensed content. SoundWorks adjusts both video and audio streams to maintain synchronization at the new speed.

Why Change Video Speed?

Slow motion. Slow down action sequences, demonstrations, or tutorials so viewers can follow every detail. Essential for instructional content, sports analysis, and creative filmmaking.

Fast forward. Speed up long processes like installations, setup procedures, or time-consuming tasks into concise, watchable clips.

Content optimization. Adjust pacing to hit target video lengths for social media platforms with duration limits.

Review and analysis. Slow down footage to study details, or speed up surveillance/monitoring recordings to review them faster.

How It Works

Step 1: Select a video. Load any supported video format.

Step 2: Set the speed. Choose from preset speeds (slow motion, normal, fast forward) or enter a custom speed multiplier.

Step 3: Process. SoundWorks adjusts the video frame timing and audio speed, maintaining synchronization between the two streams. The output is saved with the adjusted speed.

Audio Synchronization

When changing video speed, the audio is adjusted to match:

  • Slow motion: Audio is stretched to match the slower video. Pitch may shift depending on the processing method.
  • Fast forward: Audio is compressed to match the faster video. Speech remains intelligible at moderate speed increases.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does changing speed affect video quality? Speed adjustment requires re-encoding the video, which can introduce minor quality changes. Use high bitrate settings to minimize any degradation.

Can I change speed for just a portion of the video? Use the video cut tool to extract the segment you want, then apply speed control to that segment. Merge the result back with the original if needed.

What speed range is supported? SoundWorks supports speed changes from slow motion (below 1x) through fast forward (above 1x). The practical range depends on your content — extremely slow speeds produce very large files, and very fast speeds can make audio unintelligible.

Is the audio pitch-corrected? Audio processing method depends on the speed change amount. For moderate adjustments, the audio remains natural. For extreme speed changes, pitch may shift noticeably.
